![]() ![]() After a £5 million refurbishment, August 2008 sees the opening of Dovecot together with its new tapestry studio, exhibition and living spaces in the heart of Edinburgh’s Old Town. The newly renovated former Victorian Baths will provide a permanent home for Dovecot Studios and provides an exciting new workshop space in which to develop collaborations with international artists and designers.OPENING EXHIBITION Influential Voices: Weaving Influences & Raising the BarDovecot, 10 Infirmary Street, Edinburgh, EH1 1LT
Dovecot will be taking part in Edinburgh Doors Open Day on Saturday 27th September 11am to 6pm.
Visitors will have the opportunity to explore the newly renovated Dovecot Tapestry Studio,
not usually open to the public.
Dovecot’s two new contemporary exhibition spaces provide with Edinburgh with what we hope will become a vibrant centre for contemporary art, craft and design. To celebrate the opening of Dovecot a pair of exhibitions entitled Influential Voices: Weaving Influences & Raising the Bar will open to the public on 4 August 2008. ![]() Weaving Influences: 50 Years of Artist Tapestry from Scotland’s Dovecot Studios Weaving Influences looks at the role different artists and designers have played in the life of the Studios in the post-war period. Sculptors, textile-designers, painters and printmakers have all worked with Dovecot weavers to create spectacular tapestries for both public and private collections. The skill and innovation of the Studios will be illustrated by a selection of Dovecot tapestries alongside examples of the artists’ and designers’ works across a range of different mediums. The following artists will be featured: Edward Bawden, Archie Brennan, Patrick
Caulfield, Alan Davie, Ian Hamilton Finlay, David Hockney, Henry Moore, Eduardo Paolozzi, Tom Phillips,
Barbara Rae, Wendy Ramshaw, Sax Shaw and Robert Stewart.

![]() Raising the Bar: International Metalwork Curated by IC:Innovative Craft, this exhibition will show around 50 newly created works by distinguished designers from around the world. Scotland has a strong tradition of hosting international art and design, from the Glasgow World Fairs in the early 20th century to exhibitions in the Museum of Scotland in the 21st century. Scotland also has a strong tradition of metalwork and silversmithing. Raising the Bar brings together some of the most influential voices in this field from around the world for the first time. Contributors include: Malcolm Appleby, Rudolf Bott, Julie Blyfield,
Kim Buck, Robert Foster, Myra Mimlitsch Gray, Koji Hatekayama, Yasuki Hiramatsu, David Huycke,
Simon ten Hompel, Michael Rowe and Tore Svensson.

The galleries at Dovecot can be hired for the hosting of exhibitions. They can either
be hired individually, or together as one large exhibition space. With ERCO lighting
and specially rendered walls the galleries can provide versatile space for a variety of
cultural uses.
During exhibitions the galleries are also an ideal place for entertaining, with a capacity of up to 350 people. For enquiries, please contact Dovecot.
